| Our club was chartered in 1992. Our first president, Vicky Inman, only served 5 months and vice president James Beddingfiend took presidency the rest of the year. We held our meeting and beach nights at The Barn [restaurant in Southern Pines) until 1994, when Chuck Ward served as president of MASS in 1993 and John Womanck in 1994. Our club moved to its present location in Southern Pines at the Elks Country Club in 1995. Since then our slate of presidents have been: |

Our club's goal has always been to continue and preserve the Shag
dance and the music. Throughout the years we have held many
charity benefits. Some we have shared with other local clubs.
We had the Inland Throwdown for the first time in 1995 and summer
jackpot 1995 with the Johnston Shag club, Lake Tillery Shag Club and
MASS. In 1996 we hosted our second annual Super Summer
Jackpot Party with Lake Tillery and SASS. This continues to be
an ongoing annual event with Lake Tillery. Our first charity was with social services at Christmas time, and we continue to help in this area during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Later came the Special Olymipics and the boys and girls that attended the summer Elks Camp. We have given donations to the Shaggers Hall of Fame. Once our club sponsored a large Junior Shag contest with 17 couples at The Barn Restaurant. It was a huge success with a large attendance. MASS members enjoy having a good time while earning funds to donate back to our communities. We welcome anyone interested in the dance and the music to join our club. Presently we have approximately 200 members and meet the third Saturday of each month at the Southern Pines Elks Club. |
